A kite festival is a community celebration that honors the art and tradition of kite flying. These festivals often include activities such as kite making and decorating, kite flying contests, live entertainment, and food vendors. One of the most popular kite festivals is the Cherry Blossom Kite Festival in Washington, D.C., which takes place during the National Cherry Blossom Festival and attracts kite enthusiasts of all ages. Another well-known festival is the ABC Kite Festival in Austin, Texas, which has been held annually since 1929 and is one of the longest-running kite festivals in the United States.
Kite flying also holds a special significance in the Caribbean, where it is a popular pastime, especially during Easter. In places like Bermuda, Barbados, and Jamaica, flying kites at Easter symbolizes the ascension of Christ and is a time-honored tradition. Kites in the Caribbean are often elaborately decorated and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, adding to the festive atmosphere of the season.
